Air travel

Lisbon (LIS) is served by an international airport connecting the major European cities and some Nort-American cities with direct flights. From Canada, Air Transat operates seasonal direct flights. SATA (Air Acores) could also be convenient, with flights makig only a stop halfway in the Azores. From the US, Continental flies from Newark and Los Angeles, TAP from Newark.

Once in Lisbon

The airport is quite near the city center, so a taxi is a good option to go the hotel from the airport. Even including the extra luggage fare, it shouldn't be much more than 10EUR. Advice: there's normally a long line waiting for the taxis at the arrivals, but at the departures there's also a taxi line and you never wait there. So once you're past the customs, follow the indication to the departures area, and go outside: you'll see the taxi line right there.

There is also a public transport bus to the city center: http://www.carris.pt/en/bus/91/ascendente/
To get to the venue/hotel area, you need to change (the first stop, Entrecampos, is fine) to the subway (yellow line), and then get out at Rato.

The public transport fare system in Lisbon is slightly annoying since buses and subway fares are not completely interchangeable. If you plan to only use the subway during your stay (likely good enough), you can buy the bus ticket (1.40EUR) at the bus, and then then buy a rechargeable subway ticket at the station vending machines. If you plan to also use the bus or tram, it will be cheaper to buy a the rechargeable card and charge it with the "Zapping" fare, that can be used in all public transports. At the airport, this can be bought at the post office (CTT) in the Departures area.
