Hadronic decays of tau lepton and D mesons have become a very interesting source of information about light mesons. In D decays the initial state is always JP=0- and the non-resonant component is generally small, providing a very clean environment for measuring resonance parameters. The decay tau -> niutau pi+ pi- pi+ is a powerful tool for studying the a1 state. We will present recent results on the D+,Ds+ -> pi+ pi- pi+ decay from Fermilab E791 experiment, and discuss the prospects of this promising field.
