Detector-development-for-particle-and-nuclear-physics Física Experimental de Partículas com Aceleradores

Radiation detectors are sensitive to the passage of particles and able to measure some of its characteristics. Throughout the history of particle physics, the development of ever more powerful detection technologies has played a crucial role in fostering new discoveries. Detector development involves not only the detecting device itself but the associated data acquisition and readout electronic system, as well as trigger and data processing tools. The development of new instruments and methods in experimental particle physics has been from its inception one of the pillars of activity at LIP. Our specialities include resistive plate chambers, gaseous and xenon-based detectors, and optical fiber calorimeters.
