More than 400 women, including LIP students and Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP) winners Beatriz Amorim and Bruna Lima, gathered at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) headquarters in Vienna to celebrate International Women's Day.
The "For More Women in Nuclear" event featured numerous talks, panels and debates on the role of women in nuclear physics, promoting discussion on ways to support women and overcome barriers in the field of nuclear physics.
Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the IAEA, emphasised the importance of addressing the gender gap in the field of nuclear physics and stressed the need for more women in the sector.
The IAEA's Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme (MSCFP) has been instrumental in funding the academic training of women worldwide, and this year two LIP students were awarded, Beatriz Amorim and Bruna Lima.
Beatriz Amorim, a final year Master's student in Physics Engineering and a member of LIP's NUC-RIA Group, is involved in the project "Assembly and commissioning of the high rate TOF/SCI beam of the SAFARI detector".
Bruna Lima, a first-year Master's student in Physics Engineering and member of LIP's SpaceRad Group, is dedicated to the study of nuclear technology and particle physics, more specifically in Hadronic Therapy.
