PhD thesis defense
"On 27 April, Alexandre Trindade defended with great success his PhD thesis in Physics Engineering at FCTUC, obtaining the highest grade. The work was carried out within the Gaseous Detectors Development group at LIP. Congratulations!"
It was with a full room that Alexandre Trindade defended his PhD thesis entitled "Characterization of noble gas mixtures with molecular additives for radiation detection", obtaining the highest grade. The thesis was supervised by Filomena Santos and Rui Curado da Silva. The members of the hury were João Campos Gil (president, FCTUC), Maria Luísa Leonardo (FCT NOVA), João Veloso (UAveiro), Luís Miguel Távora (ESTG IPLeiria), Filomena Santos (FCTUC) and Fernando Amaro (FCTUC).
Alexandre's extensive PhD work, which led to several publications in international journals, included the design of several experimental systems, with which he studied the characteristics of gas mixtures with the potential to be used by international collaborations such as NEXT and IXPE. He also developed an innovative system for measuring the transverse electron diffusion in gas mixtures (see recent news here). His quality as an experimentalist contributed to better equip the laboratory for future research in the area.
Congratulations Alexandre!
