Three new master theses defences
"In less than a week, three LIP students, Sandro Saltão, João Gomes and Patrícia Ferreira, defended their master theses at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra - all of them successfully. Congratulations to the new masters! "
Sandro Saltão, student at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC), closed the month on a high note. Yesterday, February 28, he defended his master thesis entitled "Optimization of the vertical separation of multiple scatter events in the LZ detector with applications in the sensitivity to the 0νβββ decay of136Xe". The research was supervised by Paulo Brás and Alexandre Lindote, both from LIP. The members of the jury were Paulo Brás, João Carvalho (FCTUC) and Nuno Barros (LIP).
Congratulations Sandro!
João Humberto Gomes, from the LIP Phenomenology group, is also officially MSc since the previous day, February 27. Also at FCTUC, João defended with success his thesis entitled "Machine Learning and QCD Jets". The work was supervised by Ricardo Gonçalo (LIP/FCTUC) and Liliana Apolinário (LP/IST).
Congratulations, João!
Three days earlier, in the same faculty, it had been Patrícia Gaspar Ferreira's turn to defend her master thesis. The research was developed in the framework of the LIP ATLAS group and focused on the detection of anomalous events in the high-level trigger of the experiment. The thesis was entitled "Machine Learning for Anomaly Detection in the ATLAS Trigger at the LHC" and was supervised by Ricardo Gonçalo and Miguel Romão.
Congratulations, Patrícia!
