Portuguese Language Teachers School at CERN
"The 14th edition of the school has now come to an end. 48 teachers from Portugal, Brazil, East Timor and all the Portuguese speaking African countries attended."
The training programme for teachers in the national languages of the CERN member countries started in 2006, and the first Portuguese language school took place in 2007. Two years later, the programme was the first to welcome teachers from non-member countries with the same official language. Over the last decade, more than 700 teachers have participated in the programme, coordinated by LIP.
During one week, physics and chemistry teachers from several Portuguese-speaking countries participate in an intense programme that includes lectures, visits to experiments and exhibits, discussion sessions and hands-on activities, enjoying the international scientific environment at CERN.
The 14th edition of the school, which has just ended, was very special. Not only because it followed two years of interruption due to the pandemic, but also because it was the second to welcome teachers from all Portuguese-speaking countries. This was only possible with the support of LIP, CERN, Agência Ciência Viva, Instituto Camões and, for the Brazilian teachers, RENAFAE, CBPF, SPRACE and SBF.
