An event that shows the potential and synergies of high-energy physics and astroparticle physics in the highly demanded field of Data Science in the modern society, and create links with the industry.

Data Scientist is one of the most sought-after jobs of the moment. Social Networks, Large Retail companies, Pharmaceutical, consulting and telecommunication companies, all the Fortune 500 companies are hiring Data Scientists. Everywhere, everyone.

This workshop edition aims to promote and broaden the scientific synergies to all members of LIP and IGFAE who work on the existent common research areas:

The 2nd edition of the joint Workshop LIP/IGFAE consolidate the long tradition of scientific cooperation between researchers from the two institutes, both national and international references on High-Energy Physics.

This edition aims to promote and broaden the scientific synergies to all members of LIP and IGFAE who work on the existent common research areas:

  • Astroparticle
  • Hot and dense QCD
  • Nuclear Physics
  • Standard Model and Beyond
  • Instrumentation

as well as presenting the new lines at both IGFAE: Gravitational Waves and Integrability, and LIP: Machine Learning.

Students are recommended to refresh their knowledge in particle physics prior to the Course.

Suggested bibliography:

  • F. Halzen and A.D.Martin, 'Quarks and Leptons', John Wiley and Sons (1984)
  • D. Griffiths, 'Introduction to Elementary Particles', John Wiley and Sons (1987)
  • B.R.Martin, G. Shaw, 'Particle Physics', John Wiley and Sons (1999)
  • D. Perkins, 'Introduction to High Energy Physics', Cambridge University Press (2000)

Welcome to the 2nd joint workshop IGFAE/LIP

REGISTRATION FEE:
  • 35.00€

"Search for new physics, in particular phenomena at the basis of the electroweak symmetry breaking. Benchmark channels in proton-proton collisions will be discussed in detail, covering the identification of the objects involved, the signal and background properties, the background estimation and the S/B discriminants, the evaluation of systematical errors, and the extraction and interpretation of the final results".
