Hard Probes 2020

LIP-ECO/G. Milhano | 10 Junho, 2020

"The tenth edition of Hard Probes 2020 took place online from May 31 to June 5. The virtual format allowed for about 700 participants, a number much higher than usual. LIP was well represented"

The tenth edition of Hard Probes 2020: International Conference on Hard & Electromagnetic Probes of High-Energy Nuclear Collisions scheduled to take place in Austin (Texas), took place online from May 31 to June 5. The virtual format allowed a number of participants of around 700, much higher than that of past editions.

As usual, the LIP Phenomenology Group was well represented: Guilherme Milhano presented a plenary review on the project for a Future Circular Collider (FCC) at CERN. This proposal aims to build a new accelerator, with a diameter of about 100 km with a capacity for collisions seven times more energetic than at the LHC, which will open the door to a new era of particle and heavy ion physics. Detailed information about the FCC project is available in its Concept Design Report.

Our group's work was also presented in two presentations in the parallel sessions: Carlota Andrés (collaboration with Liliana Apolinário) and Jorge Casalderrey (collaboration with Guilherme Milhano)

Also the LIP groups in CMS (Nuno Leonardo, see dedicated news item) and ATLAS (Helena Santos) have contributed to the presented results, in this last case namely on the “ridge” in small systems (phenomenon in which the emerging particles move under a collective correlated effect), a topic that continues to generate considerable debate in the heavy-ion community.

The next edition will be in 2022 (September), in Aschaffenburg, Germany.
