LIP at Quark Matter 2019

Quark Matter 2019, the 28th edition of the international conference on ultra-relativistic nuclear collisions, took place last week in Wuhan (China). This is the most important conference in the field, where the experiments of today’s most energetic accelerators (LHC in Europe and RHIC in the USA) present in first hand their new results on heavy ion collision. Among the several news, noteworthy is the clear signature of top quarks in lead ions (PbPb) collisions, the detection of exotic states such as X(3872), and ultra-peripheral collisions that allow for precision measurements in the electroweak sector, as well as searches for physics beyond the Standard Model.
LIP was also directly represented with a plenary presentation by our colleague Liiliana Apolinario, from the Phenomenology Group, on how to extract the properties of the quark and gluon plasma that is created in this type of collisions:
