A decade of protons in the LHC
"It has been 10 years since the first protons circulated in the LHC, on September 10, 2008. In the image, the two orange spots show the successful circulation of two beams inside the accelerator. "
The long years of planning and construction were then left behind, finally heading towards data! The event had an impressive media coverage, and put CERN and particle physics in all headlines (even Google's page turned into a cartoon of the accelerator).
LIP participates in the ATLAS and CMS experiments from the beginning — that is, since 25 years. The two groups lived with this day great excitement, with several of their members in the control rooms of the experiments — we will collect some of their memories in the next issue of the LIP-News Bulletin!
