LIP took part in Física 2026, held from 9 to 12 September, with a plenary talk, 15 contributions in parallel sessions and several members involved in the scientific organisation of the conference.

From 9 to 12 September, Física 2026 – the 25th National Physics Conference and 36th Iberian Meeting on Physics Education brought together the physics community, with significant participation from LIP in both the scientific programme and the organisation of the event.
One of the highlights was a plenary talk by Mário Pimenta, entitled “Messengers from an Extreme Universe”. LIP members also presented 15 contributions in parallel sessions.
LIP was also represented in the organisation of the conference. Pedro Abreu served as Chair of Física 2026 and Jorge Sampaio as Chair of the Local Organising Committee. Alfred Stadler, Nuno Castro and Ricardo Gonçalo were members of the Scientific Committee.
Overall, Física 2026 brought together 194 registered participants and featured 137 accepted contributions, including 46 posters, as well as 10 plenary presentations and a debate on energy.
The conference also hosted the presentation of the “Fundação ‘la Caixa’ / Banco BPI” Awards for Excellence in Physics Education in the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and Secondary Education.
The event also included the presentation of honorary membership, approved at the most recent General Assembly, to Jorge Romão (CFTP/IST), José António Paixão (CFisUC/UC), Maria de Fátima Mota (FCUP) and Mário Pimenta (LIP/IST), a distinction previously highlighted in an earlier news article.
