"João Silva successfully defended his PhD thesis, "Jets as differential probes of hot QCD matter""

On 23 July 2026, João Silva, a PhD student and member of the Pheno research group at LIP, successfully defended his doctoral thesis, entitled "Jets as differential probes of hot QCD matter", at Instituto Superior Técnico.
The work was carried out within LIP’s Pheno group under the supervision of Guilherme Milhano (IST/LIP), Liliana Apolinário (LIP/IST) and Carlos Salgado (IGFAE/University of Santiago de Compostela).
The examination committee was chaired by João Paulo Silva (IST/CFTP) and included Krishna Rajagopal (MIT), Korinna Zapp (Lund University), Patrícia Conde Muíño (IST/LIP), Ruben Conceição (IST/LIP), and Guilherme Milhano as supervisor.
The thesis was awarded the highest distinction, "Pass with Distinction and Honor."
