On 3 July 2026, Leonor Gonçalves successfully defended her master's dissertation, “Decoding Neutrino Interactions: A Model-Independent Approach with DUNE-PRISM”, at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, obtaining the highest possible mark of 20/20.
The dissertation was supervised by Cristóvão Vilela (LIP) and Filipe Joaquim (IST/CFTP), with guidance from Ciaran Hasnip (CERN).
The defence took place at Instituto Superior Técnico before a jury chaired by Guilherme Milhano (IST/LIP), with Alfons Weber (Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz) serving as examiner and Filipe Joaquim as supervisor.
The research focused on developing a new data analysis technique for measuring neutrino interaction cross-sections, using the DUNE-PRISM detector to reduce systematic uncertainties. It is the first master's dissertation completed in Portugal to focus on data analysis techniques for the DUNE near detector.
