Alberto Blanco presents LIP’s 40th anniversary in the “Pontos nos iii” series at UC Exploratório
"The session marked LIP’s 40th anniversary, its collaboration with UC Exploratório, and the presentation of the new science module “Que raios!?”, dedicated to visualising cosmic particles and radioactive phenomena."

On 20 May, LIP took part in a special “Pontos nos iii – Science Beer Talks” session at UC Exploratório, in Coimbra, marking the Laboratory’s 40th anniversary.
The session featured Alberto Blanco, a researcher at LIP Coimbra, who reflected on the Laboratory’s development over the past four decades, highlighting its role in particle physics research and in Portugal’s participation in major international scientific projects, including CERN.
The event also marked the signing of a collaboration agreement between LIP and UC Exploratório, as well as the presentation of the new science module “Que raios!?”, now part of UC Exploratório’s exhibition space. Comprising a spark chamber and a cloud chamber, the module makes it possible to observe cosmic particles and radioactive phenomena, rendering visible physical processes that constantly pass through our everyday lives.

The session took place from 6 pm to 7 pm, maintaining the informal format of the “Pontos nos iii – Science Beer Talks” series, which has been held monthly in Coimbra since 2016.
