Master's Thesis Defense

Afonso Vicente, a master's student in Physics Engineering at FCUL and a member of LIP's NUC-RIA group, successfully defended his master's thesis, entitled "Development and Characterisation of Thin Films for laser-induced proton beams".
This work was carried out in collaboration with the Laser Laboratory for Acceleration and Applications (L2A2) at the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and was supervised by Daniel Galaviz (FCUL/LIP) and Aarón Alejo (L2A2/USC). The jury included Hamad Ahmed (examiner, STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory-UK) and Manuel Abreu (chairman of the jury, FCUL), as well as the supervisors.
As part of his research project, Afonso Vicente worked on the production and characterisation of thin Formvar films at the Target Design Laboratory (TDL), with the aim of applying them to laser-induced proton acceleration. These targets were subsequently tested at L2A2, as part of a mobility supported by the #ENEN2Plus programme. The results obtained exceeded expectations, representing a significant advance for the installation.
