LIP Students Win JEF Awards in Bachelor's and Master's Categories

LIP students Carolina Miranda and Gonçalo Roriz were awarded at the 2025 JEF Awards, a competition organized by the Núcleo de Física do Instituto Superior Técnico (NFIST), which recognizes outstanding scientific projects by university students. Carolina won in the Master’s/PhD category, while Gonçalo excelled in the Bachelor’s category.
In this competition, participants present their projects to an interdisciplinary jury panel, composed of IST professors Jorge Vieira, Filipe Joaquim, Richard Brito, and Pedro Ribeiro.
Carolina Miranda, currently in the first year of her Master's, completed her First Cycle Integrative Project (PIC1) at LIP and will continue at the institute for her Master’s thesis. Her project, titled "FLASHGuard: A Novel Approach to UHDR Beam Monitoring", was supervised by Pedro Assis and PhD student Gonçalo Ribeiro.
Gonçalo Roriz, a third-year Bachelor's student, is currently developing his PIC1 at LIP. His project, titled "Implementing FLASH RT Beam Monitoring using Cherenkov Radiation", is also supervised by Pedro Assis and PhD student Gonçalo Ribeiro.
The students' performances were highly praised by the jury, who highlighted the quality of their work and presentations.
