IDPASC SCHOOL 2024
"The IDPASC School 2024, organized in Palermo, Italy, gathered PhD students for 10 days of lectures, practicals, and research site visits on particle physics."
This year the International Doctorate Network in Particle Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology School (IDPASC school) was hosted by the University of Palermo in Italy. A group of 13 PhD students from 6 different institutes around Europe with different academic backgrounds met for 10 days of theoretical and practical lectures focused on Particle and Astroparticle Physics.
Two of the ten days were dedicated to the visit of the KM3NeT research infrastructure in Portopalo di Capo Passero (SR), where an array of optical modules is placed 3400m under the sea for neutrino detection; and the Laboratori Nazionai del Sud (LNS) facilities in Catania, where are located two particle accelerators, a Superconducting Cyclotron and a Tandem, provide ion beams from Hydrogen to Lead used for a wide variety of research fields such as Accelerator Physics, Plasma Physics, Nuclear Physics applied to Medicine, to Biology and Cultural Heritage.
The school well served its purpose of strengthening the communication between the fields of Accelerator Particle Physics and Astrophysics, not only thanks to the high quality lectures held by experts in the various sectors, but also thanks to the social environment which allowed students and experts alike to exchange ideas and opinions.
