LIP at CompAS

"LIP's NUC-RIA and RADART-Dosimetry groups welcomed colleagues from the CompAS collaboration to their annual meeting, held this year in Lisbon."

The members of CompAS, an international collaboration of scientists in the field of atomic structure computation, came to Lisbon for their annual meeting. The event took place at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, and was organized by LIP's NUC-RIA and RADART-Dosimetry groups.

The collaboration, established in 2012, develops innovative codes for non-relativistic atomic calculations with relativistic corrections to the Breit-Pauli approximation ATSP2K and the fully relativistic GRASP2018 model. As well as developing the code, the members of the collaboration are experts in these methods and are constantly developing computational techniques to evaluate atomic properties.

The meeting was a good opportunity to present the latest results in this field, as well as to discuss and plan future approaches. LIP PhD student Ricardo Ferreira da Silva, who is a member of the collaboration, was one of the speakers at the meeting, sharing the results of his research work.

The meeting also included a tribute to Charlotte Froese Fischer, who passed away at the beginning of 2024, considered to be one of the founders of Atomic Structure Computing. The CompAS community, largely made up of the postdoctoral researchers she supervised and promoted, was her academic family. Her generous nature was remembered and recognized in Lisbon during the annual collaboration meeting.
