September brings a debate about implementing the BigHPC Virtual Manager

LIP-ECO/C.F. Gonçalves | 13 Setembro, 2022

"The BigHPC project brings, every two months, a different topic to discuss. The next conversation is scheduled for September 22, with HPC experts from TACC and UT Austin – and will be moderated by a LIP's member!"

The second round of webinars organized by the BigHPC project – whose mission is to improve the management of HPC data centers and Big Data applications – is about to deliver to the community a new online initiative. This time it will be dedicated to the implementation of the BIG HPC Virtual Manager (VM), used to optimally integrate and run jobs on HPC systems.

With the support of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the UTAustin Portugal program and the University of Texas at Austin – UT Austin -, this edition of webinars “Towards a new generation of Big Data & HPC applications” will be held every two months until March 2023. For now, the next meeting is scheduled for September 22.

The talk is organized in three key moments: the possible approaches to VM design, the advantages and disadvantages associated to them and, finally, the discussion will focus on the one considered most feasible to implement.

Several members of the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) will be speaking: Amit Ruhela, research associate in the HPC group, John Cazes, the director of this group, and engineering scientist Stephen Lien Harrell. Moderating the panel will be Miguel Viana, a member of LIP’s Computing team and of the BigHPC project.
