Masterclasses 2022 have come to an end

This year, the Masterclasses started in Braga, where two sessions were held. Beja, Coimbra, Covilhã, Évora, Faro, Funchal, Ponta Delgada, Porto, Lisbon and Vila Real followed. They then returned to Lisbon, where a second session was held at IST. Overall, there were about 1000 participants.
In each town, the masterclasses were organized at local universities or polytechnic institutes, with the support of LIP: University of Minho, Polytechnic Institute of Beja, University of Coimbra, University of Beira Interior, University of Évora, University of Algarve, University of Madeira, University of the Azores, University of Porto, Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon, and University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro.
In the International Particle Physics Masterclasses, scientists from 200 universities and laboratories in 50 countries welcome high school students to their institutions. Participants have the opportunity to “be a particle physicist for a day”, analysing real data collected at CERN's LHC accelerator, or planning a radiotherapy treatment. The program also included lectures and a videoconference with other participating institutions and scientists at CERN or Fermilab.
Portugal participates since the first edition, with LIP as national coordinator and the support of Ciência Viva. The International Masterclasses are led by the Technical University of Dresden and the Quarknet group (USA), in close collaboration with the International Particle Physics Outreach Collaboration (IPPOG) and CERN.
