Leibniz Prize 2022
"Gabriel Martínez-Pinedo has been awarded the 2022 Leibniz Prize. The NUC-RIA group at LIP collaborate with Martínez-Pinedo in the context of his ERC-funded KILONOVA project"
Gabriel Martínez-Pinedo has been awarded the 2022 Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize from the German Research Foundation (DFG, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) for his outstanding work at the interface between astrophysics, nuclear physics and neutrino physics. He researches and teaches at the Institute for Nuclear Physics at the Technical University in Darmstadt and at the GSI. This is most important and highest endowed German research prize.
Members of the NUC-RIA group have recently started collaborating with Gabriel Martínez-Pinedo within the scope of the European Research Council (ERC) funded KILONOVA project led by this scientist. LIP’s contributions have been calculations of atomic transitions for determining the opacities of the r-process elements produced in the kilonova. LIP’s student Ricardo Silva recently defended his MSc thesis on this topic.
