The Jornadas de Computação Científica are the annual meeting point for the various communities of managers and users of advanced computing, communication and other digital services provided by the Foundation for Science and Technology. Over three days, topics in the area of scientific computing are discussed, ranging from connectivity to security, from collaboration and knowledge sharing to processing capacity and tools. As usual, the LIP computing group will be present. In the context of the Jornadas, the role of LIP in INCD - National Infrastructure for Distributed Computing and in euroCC, project for the dissemination of Advanced Computing in Portugal, should be highlighted.
Computer science is today a fundamental tool in scientific research. LIP develops novel information technologies and operates advanced services to support demanding scientific applications. LIP participates in some of the largest European R&D projects in this field and operates the largest scientific computing facility in Portugal. This facility is part of the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG) and delivers computing and storage capacity to high energy physics experiments and to the research community in a large ensemble of scientific domains. LIP is part of the European Grid Infrastructure (EGI) and Iberian Grid Infrastructure (IBERGRID), acting as National contact point, and of the European Data Science Cloud (EOSC). LIP in partnership with FCCN/FCT and LNEC is leading the National Distributed computing Infrastructure (INCD), an e-infrastructure that is part of the Portuguese Science Foundation Roadmap of Research Infrastructures of Strategic Relevance.
