Particles have been used in medicine ever since the discovery of x-rays. Today, particle accelerators and detectors are used in clinical treatments and to look inside the human body. LIP’s expertise in planning, building and operating detectors for particle and nuclear physics finds natural application in the fields of medical imaging, radiotherapy instrumentation and dosimetry. These areas are covered in multidisciplinary projects developed in collaboration with partners such as the institute for nuclear health applications ICNAS, the centre for nuclear technology CTN/IST and several hospitals and medical research centres.
