"The tribute was held at the Rectory of the University of Lisbon and brought together many colleagues and friends. Minister Manuel Heitor closed the session"

Yesterday, at the Rectory of the University of Lisbon, a tribute was paid to Gaspar Barreira. The session was opened by the President of LIP, Mário Pimenta, and the Rector of the University of Lisbon, António Cruz Serra. The day was divided into four sessions: “Physics,” “Technology and Industry,” “Proton Therapy,” and “Gaspar's Life and Vision.” There were contiobutions from many of Gaspar’s colleagues and friends from around the world, who were present in key moments throughout the various phases of his multifaceted life. We talked about the past, but mostly about the future. The session ended with the intervention of João Barreira, Gaspar's son, and the closing by the Minister of Science, Manuel Heitor.

Gaspar Barreira was born on May 4th 1940 in Braga and died on June 1st 2019. He was one of the founders of LIP, Laboratory of Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics.
