LIP with two plenary talks at QCD@LHC 2026
The conference brought together experimental and theoretical experts in Oxford to discuss the study of strong interactions at the LHC, and featured two plenary talks by LIP researchers.

LIP researchers Nuno Castro and Guilherme Milhano gave plenary talks at QCD@LHC 2026. The conference took place from 28 September to 2 October at the University of Oxford, across the Department of Physics and St Anne’s College.
This was the 16th edition of the conference series, which brings together experimentalists and theorists working on strong interactions at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The programme combined plenary sessions with parallel sessions covering Higgs, electroweak and beyond-the-Standard-Model physics, heavy quarks, parton distribution functions, QCD at high and low scales, including heavy ions, as well as new techniques and event generators.
Nuno Castro, from LIP and the University of Minho, took part in the first scientific session of the opening day with the presentation “Highlights from ATLAS”, on behalf of the ATLAS Collaboration. He provided an overview of the latest results from the ATLAS experiment in QCD and strong-interaction physics.
Guilherme Milhano, from LIP and Instituto Superior Técnico, spoke in the closing session with “Recent developments in heavy-ion physics”. He presented his perspective on recent advances in the study of heavy-ion collisions and the quark–gluon plasma.

Having two LIP members among the plenary speakers at one of the leading international conferences in the field reflects the laboratory’s standing in both experimental and theoretical research.
