LIP organises international meeting on gaseous detectors in Coimbra

From 29 June to 3 July 2026, LIP, in collaboration with the Department of Physics of the University of Coimbra, organised the 8th DRD1 Collaboration Meeting, dedicated to the latest advances in the development of gaseous radiation detectors.
The meeting brought together around 60 participants in person and a further 80 online. Over five days, researchers from several countries presented their results, discussed scientific and technological challenges, and strengthened collaboration between the different groups.
DRD1 is an international collaboration within the CERN-anchored research and development programme for detector technologies. The meeting covered a range of detector technologies, as well as detector physics and performance, simulation and software, electronics, new materials, production techniques, industrialisation and future applications.

Early-career researchers featured prominently in the programme. More than 15 researchers under the age of 35 presented their work, and five Young Researcher Grants were awarded.
The Best Poster Award went to Kristian Haverson for Negative Ion Studies for Migdal Effect Searches. Eliška Jelínková received the Best Oral Presentation Award for Pixelated Charge Readout of Micro-Pattern Gaseous Detectors with the Timepix4 ASIC.
The meeting showcased LIP’s work in gaseous detector technologies and promoted knowledge exchange and the development of new collaborations within DRD1.
