LIP Participates in ASOS15 and CompAS

Jorge Sampaio; LIP ECO/Andreia Pacheco | 01 Julho, 2026

"Researchers from the NUC-RIA group are taking part in ASOS15 and the CompAS meeting, with presentations on atomic data that are essential for studying kilonovae and the formation of heavy elements in the Universe."

From 29 June to 2 July, LIP is represented at the 15th International Colloquium on Atomic Spectra and Oscillator Strengths for Astrophysical and Laboratory Plasmas (ASOS15) and the satellite meeting Computational Atomic Structure Group Meeting (CompAS), taking place in Nice, by Ricardo Silva, Tomás Campante, and Jorge Sampaio.

PhD student Ricardo Silva (LIP/FCUL) is delivering an invited oral presentation at ASOS15 entitled “Resonant Excitation Contributions to Electron-Impact Collision Strengths for r-Process Ions: Implications for Non-LTE Kilonova Modelling.” At CompAS, he is also presenting the oral contribution “Calculations for Kilonova.”

Master's student Tomás Campante (LIP/FCUL) is presenting an oral contribution at ASOS15 entitled “Systematic Calculation of Recombination Processes for Lanthanides with FAC.”

These contributions are part of the work carried out by the NUC-RIA group to address the scarcity and improve the quality of the atomic data required to simulate kilonova light curves. Such data are essential for enabling the astronomical community to identify the spectral signatures of elements produced through the r-process.

In addition to the oral presentations, the group is also presenting a poster entitled “Simulation of High-Resolution K- and L-Shell X-ray Spectra.”
