Gulbenkian New Talents 2025 recognises students who will develop research projects at LIP

LIP ECO/Andreia Pacheco | 24 Novembro, 2025

The award distinguishes students with outstanding academic performance in Portuguese higher education, supporting their first steps in research.

Inês Alvito and Gonçalo Roriz have been selected for the Gulbenkian New Talents 2025 programme and will carry out their research projects at LIP.

Inês will join LIP to work on “Sensitivity of Shower Footprint Variables to High- and Low-Energy Hadronic Interaction Models”, under the supervision of Pedro Abreu. She describes this opportunity as:
“For me, receiving the Gulbenkian ‘New Talents’ scholarship is a tremendous opportunity to explore the research carried out at LIP and an additional motivation to learn from its researchers.”

Gonçalo will join the Particles4Health group to develop the project “FLASHGuard – Instrumentation of the Proof of Concept”, dedicated to ultra-fast monitoring for FLASH radiotherapy. He describes the beginning of this work at the laboratory as follows:
“It is a great honour to receive this scholarship, and it represents an excellent opportunity to begin my research work at LIP and continue my scientific and academic journey, developing my skills, something for which I am deeply grateful.”

The Gulbenkian “New Talents” programme supports students with outstanding academic performance and promotes their first contact with research environments. It includes scientific mentoring, workshops, retreats, advanced training and financial support of up to 3,500 euros, enabling scholars to deepen their skills and explore new scientific challenges.
