UMinho Scientific Research Initiation Award 2024
"On December 5th, the final projects of the award's fifth edition were presented. Miguel Amorim Lacerda, an intern at LIP, was among the winners. Congratulations!"
The fifth edition of the UMinho Scientific Research Initiation Award once again recognized the merit of students involved in scientific projects at the University of Minho. This year, Miguel Amorim Lacerda, supervised by Raúl Sarmento, a researcher at LIP, stood out among the 30 finalists, earning one of the 18 awards granted.
Miguel's award-winning project, developed as part of the LIP Summer Internship Programme, focused on the calibration of a detector at the Pierre Auger Observatory, one of the largest international projects dedicated to the study of cosmic rays.
The award ceremony took place on December 5th at the Gualtar campus in Braga, featuring public presentations of the finalist projects. This initiative, promoted by the University’s Rectorate in collaboration with Research Centers, encourages UMinho undergraduate students to join excellent scientific teams, fostering their interest in research and science.
We proudly celebrate Miguel’s achievement, which continues LIP's tradition of excellence in the UMinho Scientific Research Initiation Award. This result highlights the significance of the LIP Internship Programme as a unique platform for training and developing young scientific talent.
Congratulations, Miguel, on your outstanding work!
