Master's Thesis Defense
"Afonso Guerreiro (IST/LIP) and Joan Kladnik (UM/LIP) successfully defended their master’s theses. Congratulations to the new Masters! "
Afonso Guerreiro, a Master's student in Physics at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and a member of the Phenomenology Group at LIP, defended his dissertation titled "In-medium Gluon Radiation in General Kinematics" on December 3rd. Supervised by Guilherme Milhano (LIP/IST), his work advanced the theoretical understanding of medium-induced gluon radiation, a crucial phenomenon in the study of the Quark-Gluon Plasma formed in heavy-ion collisions.
The thesis was evaluated by a jury composed of Mário Pimenta (LIP/IST, President), Liliana Apolinário (LIP/IST), and Konrad Tywoniuk (University of Bergen). Afonso developed a comprehensive approach to the BDMPS-Z formalism, extending previous results and introducing a computational routine to solve the associated integro-differential equations.
Joan Kladnik, on the other hand, defended his dissertation titled "Reconstruction of Solar Neutrino Events with Machine Learning Techniques Using Data from the SNO+ Experiment" on December 6th at the University of Minho. His research, conducted within the LIP Neutrino Group as part of the SNO+ experiment, explored the use of Machine Learning techniques to identify solar neutrino events, enhancing the physics potential of the experiment.

The thesis was supervised by Nuno Barros (LIP) and Nuno Castro (LIP/University of Minho), with a jury including Ricardo Ribeiro (University of Minho, President) and Valentina Lozza (LIP).
Congratulations, Afonso and Joan, on the excellent work!
