Prototera & LIP/IDPASC Student Workshop

LIP-ECO/Carolina Felgueiras | 29 Outubro, 2024

"In October, LIP doctoral students participated in two key events: the Prototera Workshop at C2TN Técnico, focused on advancing proton therapy for cancer treatment, and the 8th LIP/IDPASC Workshop at the University of Minho, highlighting research being done across Particle Physics and Medical Physics."

In October, LIP PhD students actively participated in two events: the Prototera Workshop at C2TN Técnico and the 8th edition of the LIP/IDPASC workshop at the University of Minho.

The Prototera Workshop at C2TN Técnico brought together experts to discuss the use of proton therapy, an innovative technology in the treatment of diseases such as cancer, which is not yet available in Portugal.

The event emphasised the importance of academic training and research, with presentations by PhD students and specialists on clinical case studies, real-time imaging systems during treatment, and targeted therapy with nanoparticles. The crucial role of students in advancing these technologies and their potential for the future of the field were the key points of this event.

The 8th edition of the LIP/IDPASC workshop took place at the University of Minho, with the participation of PhD students from LIP and IDPASC.

They presented the work carried out during their doctorates, which involved a wide range of topics, from particle physics to instrumentation and medical physics. This variety demonstrated the interdisciplinary nature of the students' projects and emphasised the relevance of their contributions to fundamental science and their applications in areas such as medicine.
