LIP at ICHEP 2024

LIP-ECO | 02 Agosto, 2024

"Seven LIP researchers attended the 42nd edition of the International Conference on High Energy Physics (ICHEP)"

ICHEP is the world's most important conference in the field of Particle and High Energy Physics, featuring three days of plenary sessions and hundreds of presentations divided into 18 parallel sessions, covering the entire scientific area. Organized every two years for over 50 years, the conference rotates across various continents. The 2024 edition took place in Prague from July 18 to 24, a city that previously hosted the event in July 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, when it was held exclusively online.

This year, LIP researchers played significant roles in several conference sessions.Liliana Apolinário moderated the "Heavy Ions" parallel session, and Pedro Abreu represented IPPOG in the plenary session dedicated to science education and outreach. Rudnei Machado, Inês Ochoa, Agostinho Gomes, Cristóvão Vilela and Ricardo Gonçalo presented results and plans in several areas, including the production and characterization of PET and PEN scintillators, the development of algorithms for heavy quark identification, measurements of heavy quarks using data collected by ATLAS in LHC Run 2, plans for the upgrade of the ATLAS TileCal subdetector, and future developments of the DUNE Prism detector.

The active and diverse participation of LIP researchers at ICHEP 2024 highlights the importance and impact of their work in the international scientific community. This conference not only provides a platform for the exchange of knowledge but also strengthens global collaboration in Particle and High Energy Physics.
