This opens possibility for surprises even with small data sets to be collected next year. We discuss various searches for new physics with the focus on the CMS experiment and early LHC data. The delay with the LHC commissioning due to the recent incident, which prevented us from seeing first collisions this year presents new challenges for the collaborations, namely commissioning of the detector simultaneously with searches for new physics. We discuss this challenge and strategies for searches with early data. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
