This is the first announcement of the VIII International Conference on Calorimetry in High Energy Physics. The next conference in the sequence - following Fermilab, Capri, Corpus Christi, Elba, BNL, Frascati and Arizona - will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, and is scheduled from Sunday June 13th through Saturday June 19th, 1999.

The meeting will address all aspects of calorimetric particle detection and measurement with emphasis in high-energy physics experiments. The main topics on the present and future of calorimetry will be covered:

• From accelerator experiments to astroparticle research
  
• From Higgs to neutrinos: macro to micro calorimetry
  
• From fundamental physics to medical applications
  
• Detectors, materials, electronics, radiation hardness, dosimetry, physics performance, simulation, etc.
