Abstract :
I will review giving an overview of the present status of longitudinal spin structure of the nucleon.
With an emphasis on results from quark flavor separation and gluon polarization. I will review the limitations
of the current & near future measurements, and emphasize the need to pursue these investigations with a
future Electron Ion Collider (EIC).
