Minister of Foreign Affairs visited CERN

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Augusto Santos Silva, visited CERN today, during a trip to Geneva. The delegation included Ambassador Rui Macieira, Permanent Representative of Portugal to the United Nations and other International Organizations, Ambassador João Ribeiro de Almeida, President of Instituto Camões, Bruno Paes Moreira, General Consul of Portugal in Geneva, and Bruno Julião , Adviser to the Minister for Language, Culture and Science.
Augusto Santos Silva discussed with the Director General of CERN, Fabiola Gianotti, and established contacts with members of the Portuguese community at CERN, among them Ana Godinho, CERN’s Director for Education, Communication and Outreach. Patricia Conde Muiño (LIP/IST), coordinator of the Portuguese participation in the ATLAS experiment, accompanied the visit, as did LIP's PhD student Ana Luísa Carvalho. The Minister visited the underground cavern of the ATLAS experiment at the LHC and IdeaSquare, a space dedicated to innovation and knowledge transfer.
