Call for Advanced Computing Projects

The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), through its FCCN unit, announced the opening of the 2nd edition of the Call for Advanced Computing Projects. The call aims at consolidating and strengthening the national technological and scientific system through advanced computing resources for research and innovation. These resources may be useful in areas as diverse as climate or molecular modelling, artificial intelligence and the study of complex problems.
The competition results from a collaboration with the four operational centers: National Distributed Computing Infrastructure (INCD), Minho Advanced Computing Center (MACC), Advanced Computing Laboratory of the University of Coimbra (LCA-UC) and High Performance Computing of the University of Évora (HPC-UÉ). INCD, operated by LIP, participates as a provider of high performance computing capacity (high performance computing, HPC) and scientific cloud.
In this second call, which aims at allocating 31 million CPU core.hours or vCPU.hours on platforms of the National Network for Advanced Computing (RNCA), applications in all scientific areas using HPC and/or scientific cloud are accepted in three distinct types: Experimental Access (A0, up to 15 000 CPU core.hours and 6 months); Preparatory Access (A1, up to 100,000 CPU core.hours and 6 months); Project Access (A2, up to 3,000,000 CPU core.hours and 12 months).
Type A2 will have scientific and technical evaluation. The remaining typologies, of shorter duration, will have technical evaluation only. Applications for Project Access (A2) will be open from the 19th of July to the 13th of September 2021. A0 and A1 will be available on a continuous basis from the 19th of July to the 28th of April 2022 or until the available resources are exhausted.
